Finding your way home to music
This page is about my work with clients, which foregrounds music as a soul path.
Music life coaching. Your first question will probably be: “Is this for professional musicians?”
This is for anyone who knows that music is a central, non-negotiable part of their life. But you’ve struggled to fit it into your life in a way that works for you.
Whether it’s about earning a living is going to be different for everyone.
Now read on…
You know you need music. But you’ve struggled to make it fit into your life in a way that truly works for you.
This is for you if you have a longing for music that hasn’t been fulfilled.
Whether you’re a burned-out musician who’s still searching for your musical home, or someone who desperately wants to make music but doesn’t know where to start.
You know music brings you joy like nothing else—it’s as vital to you as sunlight—but it often gets pushed aside in favor of earning a living, taking care of the family, and juggling all your responsibilities.
Maybe you have a music-related job that seemed perfect at first, but now it’s draining your energy and passion. You don’t think you can leave because it’s the only way to make a living in music.
You have musical dreams, but they’re stuck, and it even feels like too much work to create a simple Spotify playlist, leaving you stuck listening to the same songs over and over.
I get it. That’s why I do this work.
Expanding; fulfilled; profound
“I knew I had a lot of creative energy, but I didn’t know where to begin.
The biggest change I’ve noticed after working with Alice is that I am now putting my own needs first. I still get everything done, but now I make space for my creative expression. This has become a priority.
And the flow-on effect has been profound. Because I feel more fulfilled, I can handle the challenges of my day with so much more ease.”
— Suzanne
Who this isn’t for
If you’re looking for someone who can help you break into the music industry, land a recording contract, or navigate a classical music career, that’s not what I specialize in. There are coaches who focus on these specialized paths.
However, I can help you clarify whether pursuing one of these paths is right for you and support you in developing the personal, musical, and even technical skills you’ll need along the way.
This is my hope for you
When you follow your own musical path:
- You’ll experience better overall wellbeing.
- You’ll free up time and energy that will positively impact the rest of your life.
- You’ll know you’re doing what you’re meant to do.
- You’ll see music as a powerful tool for transformation in the world.
- You’ll feel aligned with the flows of abundance.
- You’ll create more rewarding relationships.
- You’ll experience creative flow like never before.
Does this sound like you?
- You’ve bought yet another instrument, hoping this will be the one you’ll finally master and enjoy playing regularly.
- You loved to sing years ago, but your voice has grown rusty from lack of use.
- You’ve worked with music teachers, but it never seems to stick.
- You play multiple instruments and genres, but haven’t found one that truly suits you.
- You’re making money from music, but it’s not fulfilling and doesn’t inspire you.
You’ve tried to fit music into your life, but nothing has clicked.
You know you’re not happy with the way things are, but you’re unsure what to do next.
Here’s what you need to do:
Stop. Acknowledge where you are, and where you want to be.
When your relationship with music is aligned with who you are, it will uplift you. Deep down, you know this is possible. You might have buried that belief, but it’s still there.
It’s about reconnecting with and trusting the wisdom within you. With a little support and safety, this process can unfold. You can’t do it alone—if you could, you would have by now.
Held; Encouraged; Magic
“I was in need of someone to help me make sense of conflicting needs, wants, and obligations. From the first session, I felt the magic that happens when you have someone to hold you accountable.
Having someone who ‘believed in me’ without judgment allowed me to honestly explore and bring so much more into reality.”
— Roslyn
What I know for sure
Music is a powerful, energy-shifting force.
When soul-driven musicians burn out or feel discouraged, something isn’t right.
Every musician has a unique role to play in creating positive change in the world—this includes you!
I’d love to help you create your own musical space. I can support you in finding the alignment of your creative purpose and help you reconnect with the joy of experiencing music from your heart and soul.
If you value yourself, your gifts, and your dreams, it’s time to tune up. How long can you keep juggling everything else while putting off what makes your heart sing?
Music Life Coaching is a relational approach to music coaching, developed by Alice Bulmer since 2015, for women who long to make music but have become discouraged, to help them reconnect with music for personal growth not industry success.
My burnout story:
I know what it’s like to crave the music that makes your heart sing, but not know how to get there.
At age six, I experienced the joy of soul-aligned music when I learned to play the ukulele.
I spent nearly 50 years trying to rediscover that feeling—but it was a long and painful journey. I kept hitting brick walls, burning out, and starting over.
I had 15 years of classical music training, went to university, played in symphony orchestras, rock bands, and even made records and music videos.
Along the way, I took voice training, postgrad courses in expressive therapies, creativity training for early childhood educators, and much more.
Each time, I thought, “This is it! This is where my music is leading me.” But over and over, I ended up at a dead end—burned out, disappointed, and frustrated.
.
When I finally asked for help, I hadn’t made music in years. My frustration about that affected everything in my life. After six months of support, I found my way back to the ukulele—and it was just as joyful as I remembered.
Now, I create my own musical space, jamming with friends every week. I’ve been teaching ukulele for over ten years, guiding hundreds of adults—many of them complete beginners—through the process of learning to play and sing at the same time.
You can get unstuck, and it can happen faster than you think.
Music doesn’t have to be hard. It can be joyful, playful, and fun. And when you find your place for music in your life, everything else becomes more joyful too.
The world needs more people who are having fun with their music right now.
Let’s make that happen for you.
Here’s where you begin:
Six one-hour sessions, taken over three months.
Your investment: $US630 for the package.
Some frequent questions
Is this only for professional musicians?
This is for anyone who knows in their heart that music is a central, essential part of their life.
Whether it’s about earning a living is going to be different for everyone.
What results can I get in six sessions?
In this time we can make a great start on your musical recovery.
I won’t promise that everything will suddenly burst into song. But you’ll make a start. And you’ll be going in the right direction at last.
After the initial three months I recommend that clients follow up with a monthly session for six months, to keep momentum and get ongoing support with their projects.
I’ve tried a lot of things and nothing has worked so far. Why is this different?
I hear you! I’ve been there. I tried everything before I finally got help.
My answer has three parts:
1. It’s really hard to do new things without external support. If you could do this on your own, you already would have.
2. This isn’t an external solution. I will not tell you what to do. I will support you to look for the answers within you, and take action on them.
3. If you’ve worked with other coaches, my difference (okay, one of my differences) is that I’m foregrounding music as a soul path.
Am I expected to do homework?
Yes. You’ll get a much better outcome when you put in some work between sessions. This could be journaling or research, or work towards a project.
Can you help me get into the music industry?
No. This isn’t in my scope of support.
But I can help you work out if that’s the right path for you to take, and support you with identifying and growing some of the personal skills you’ll need to navigate your chosen path.
Practical details
How often are the sessions?
A six session package is normally delivered in fortnightly intervals. I find that’s a good time to allow for integration and work towards tasks, practice and/or reflection.
Can I have more time between sessions?
There’s flexibility for life events. However, momentum may get lost when there is a big gap between sessions.

Sessions take place on Zoom. In between sessions I welcome you contacting me by email.
